Hi all,

What kind of gains can be expected from replacing the standard downpipe for a scoobysport (or similar open neck) downpipe.

I have never been able to do a before and after on a car that has had one fitted so am a little in the dark.

I have a MY99 TypeR with a full fubjitso exhaust system. My car runs absolutly no det at all, so I am not too worried from that aspect

Thumbs up

Overall prob only around 10bhp but Turbo will spool up much quicker and you'll sure hear the difference

Mid range a good bit better too

Do it

10-15 bhp & spool up of turbo 500-800 rpm sooner.

wow, this seems like an unbeatable mod.

Are there any downsides to it apart from the obvious boost spikes and increase in det issue?

I know a few friendly MOT testers who also happen to like beer and drink in my local.....shouldn't be an issue there

Only downside i felt was a loss of torque from low to mid range, even though the turbo did spool up earlier as has been said. It needed revving over 5000 to feel quick still, but agree a noticable performance gain.

I took mine off after 3 days, too much droning in the cabin with the twin dump magnex down pipe I had, especially at around 85mph on the motorway.
Went for the TEK2 re-map instead, fair bit more money but better power gains and no hassle for MOT when it comes round.

Matt

What are you doing with your downpipe mate? If you are gonna sell it, how much do you want for it? Let me know as per my profile, please, along with age, mileage covered, and the usual. Pic would also be great.

Gedi - I recently had the downpipe put in (with a decat centre too) and it really is an unbeatable mod, as you say!

People can tell you till they're blue in the face how great it is (as all my decatted mates did for a year of owning my Turbo) but until you drive it on your own car you have no idea.

It's a great idea, do it today Or yesterday if possible
