I've got an STi8 with full Miltek, uprated fuel pump and EcuTek remap - to something around (probably more than) the performance of the PPP.

I'm seriously thinking of getting the equal length headers - as supplied by Powerstation - and having the engine dyno'd and remapped afterwards, to reap maximum effect.

Does anyone have a similar spec and can comment authoritatively on whether the equal length headers are a good plan, and worth the outlay???

It certainly sounds like a great idea - though would like opinions of anyone with any sort of experience, perhaps on an Sti7 (as I know Powerstation have fitted some to STi7s, but none to 8s yet).

Thanks

Shades

Lightbulb

Works for the Spec C impreza.

Mr. Litchfield has one, and he's next door to Powerstation (ish). He uses them for any work to cars, etc.

Cool

Squizz,

Are you really telling us that this exhaust header will work well with the STI8 Type RA Spec C? Surely that car would require a different header being that it runs the twin scroll turbo system?

Mind you, I guess it must work on all turbo impreza's, because that is what it says on the Powerstation website. ("Fits ALL Impreza turbo's (93-03)" or something like that)

I don't know which manifold Powerstation is selling. With the Supersprint manifold I had 15 - 20 BHP more compared to the standard manifold. (at the same boost)

Mark.

Thanks EMS....

310(ish) to 330(ish) sounds like a good idea... though apparently it's the torque and spin-up (and hence throttle pick-up) that improves the most.

Albeit at the cost of the scooby burble - oh well...

Think I might just do it. Now where did I see those uprated, roller bearing turbo details....

The JDM 03 already has an equal length header system plus twin scroll turbo, why change to another unless you have a UK STi, the JDM 03 is an STi9 not an 8, thats the UK STi designation.

cheers

Hi Bob,

So we agree on the headers.

I didn't know about the STI8 RA Spec C being an STI 9 though! I was going on the twin scroll "sti8 RA Spec C" that a certain Mr Litchfield was kind enough (mad enough ? ) to volunteer for me to test drive. So they are 8's over here and 9's over there?

Talking

Mr Shades has a very fetching UK STI so I'm sure the equal length headers will make a nice improvment

Oy!

Impartial responses only please Mr L...!!!!! Rich told me he'd fitted a few to STi7s and I'm looking for customer opinion...

So, the straight swap for your Spec C demo car isn't an option then Iain?

Now - as you're watching my thread, what am I bound to ask you again VERY soon????

Moray all JDM MY03 STi's are '9's I'm very reliably informed. the UK Sti is just a rebodied '7' in essence hence its an '8' the question was about the headers though. The differences between the JDM and UK versions are very significant in sveral areas.

Exclamation

Blimey! Easy boys...

All I was saying was that the Spec C Impreza uses equal length headers to good effect, and so it might well be worth doing to an STi8 (UK).

I'll crawl back under my rock.

The equal length headers on the JDM03 are piped differently to the aftermarket ones "normally" available so the same effect may not be seen. Needs to be tried, non-equal length tubular headers work well.

Very pleased to say that, when my STi8 was in with PowerStation to repair the damage after my recent multiple pheasant strike (only casualties, one air-con condensor and one coolant rad) - they have fitted the stainless steel equal length headers.

It certainly sounds very different, and certainly goes better. Quite a strange engine noise now - great when on song, and still pops and bangs a bit when idling (if provoked).

So - with the full Milltek and the headers, it's quite an impressive beast now. Just need to get the EcuTek tweaked and the undertray refitted next week - but I'm driving it for the time being, and will try to take some piccies of the headers before the tray goes back on - as they look great now they've changed colour.

Great service from Rich and Curt, and the rest of the gang at the PowerStation - not a cheap job, but well done and the help given to me after the pheasant strike was much appreciated and invaluable...

I'll be at the Gloucs meet on Wednesday if anyone fancies a spin, or just wants to hear the lovely sound

So - in summary - PowerStation headers - DO IT!

from what i`ve read on 22b.com it may be best leave your undertray off, or even get an aluminium plate made to protect only your sump/oil filter thus allowing plenty of cool air to the headers
