Question

Running a MY95 WRX with all breathing mods and 16.5 psi, around 290bhp I imagine.

Changing the spark plugs and have bought NGK PFR6B's, I wanted 7B's but couldn't get them in time. However I am of the understanding that the '6' stands for the gap - 0.6, so I am assuming the 7's mean gapped at 0.7

Can someone confirm I should gap them to 0.7?
Why is this where OE is 0.6?
Is that the only difference between the 6's and the 7's?

Thanks you knowledgable bunch

Justin

You are referring to the heat range. 7 is a colder plug and is less likely to cause detonation from hot spots on a tuned motor.

Plug gap is small enough that the spark is not blown out, but large enough to give good ignition. 0.7mm has found to be a good compromise, these plugs usually are gapped at 0.8mm when you buy them or when they are in your Subaru.

So John are the 6B's OK for my application bearing in mind my circumstances? and should i gap them to 0.7 rather than the std 0.8?

7B would be better, but you should be OK with 6B - I ran for a while in the high 200s BHP with the original 6Bs - slight missing sensation on high boost though with 0.8mm gap. Would gap to 0.7mm.
