Will it go? What mods do I need for a slight bit of reliability? I have uprated engine internals, straight thorough, Greddy Profec A Boost Controller, stainless manifold and a few other bits. Is it worth it?
Any idea what boost this will give me? Maybe combined with a ScoobyECU?
Cheers!

I thought you ordered a HKS turbo and HKS FMIC??
You changing your mind already - you dont even have the HKS items yet!
Told you on sidc you should keep your TD05

i use a vf23 on my modded RS they are a good responsive turbo, better in that regard than a tdo5h, a tdo5 will produce more outright power with more lag, but they are a good strong turbo whe n hybrided with a larger front compressor cover and wheels from a tdo6 can produce big kw and good for dragging...they are a much sought after turbo because there strength and ability to be modded..

How much more lag did you find with the TD05 - can you quantify it?
From datalogs I would say the TD05 just beats the VF23 for spool up and lag, and is more the equal of a VF28 with 1 bar at 2800 RPM in 5th gear on factory headers. The VF35 is the only VF apart from the twin scroll examples that beats the spool up from what I've seen.
Were you comparing front entry TD05 or right angle entry TD05 with the VF23?

I was comparing both turbos with a 90 degree elbow, the tdo5 is one tough little critter and very versetile, iam moving over to a vf34 straight entry by twisting the turbo side ways a bit, 4 into 1 headers and a front mount, this set up should have even less lag top off with a link ecu, a straight entry turbo will reduce spool up time, so will a good ecu.. the new twin scroll turbos vf37 and 39 are even a lot faster need a new set of headers and sump to fit, i think you can just buy the up pipe to fit the new turbo, but this may defeat the purpose by not using the matching headers.. pretty pricey.. you can buy them in the state..

question..
Did the VF23 ever have a 90degree inlet??
Roodog, i reckon you just had a good read through drivetrain and you dont know what you are talking about Everything you have just written could have been cut n pasted from the last two days threads..
Please explain why you have to 'twist' your turbo to use the VF34? is this so that you can run the outlet under the manifold?
Please explain how this turbo, plus Headers, plus FMIC is going to be less laggy?? am very interested!! I can see the mapping improving the situation.

VF 23 only come with straight entry, i do not need to cut and paste other peoples work, i have had my RS since new in 1992, I further resent your insinuations and take umbrage to your comments.. now thats cleared up, you where asking about twisting the turbo towards where the airbox would sit thus giving you a direct path to the inlet of the turbo.. by the way we have had subis a long time and not as greys and have the quickest wrx in the world runs a 9.4sec over the quarter...
