Question

I have a strange noise... I first noticed it after changing the oil the other day - in the Scoobynet approved way . (The noise could have been happening for a good while before this...)

It's very quiet and can only be heard at or just above idle with the bonnet open and the fans off! A sort of clonking noise really, not periodic, and changes slightly with engine RPM. It's not a tappety noise - I know what this sounds like.

The car still flies as it's supposed to do, so it's probably not serious yet - and the car is still it's usual quiet self at speed.

I was thinking something like a heat shield problem? Any ideas??
I've not had a chance to look for things under the car yet - that's Saturday's job, assuming it fines up!

Oops! Should have said it's a MY96 UK turbo with just under 80K on it.

I can try with the laptop tonight. Will email it to you if I'm successful. I'll also see if I can still do signal processing by filtering the wav file...

As long as it's not going to break before the IOW event (and preferably not afterwards either!!) I'll be happy.

Found a nasty cracked manifold heat shield and a loose ABS wire mounting plate... I think these could have something to do with the noise.
