I currently have a magnex bb conected to the standard centre & front pipes.
I don't want to go to the full decat system (Wife's already moaning about waking the kids up in the morning), but was wondering if the box in the middle of the standard centre is a cat or just a resinator, and if putting a straight through centre on would make any performance difference ?

I've been thinking about putting a de-cat centre on for sometime now. (MY99 with a ProDrive BB std centre/front)
I've just spent the last hour going through all the posts related to this subject on the BBS.
I get the feeling that some Scoobs don't respond well to a BB and centre change. One post mentioned a Scoob felt like a 'slug' after changing the centre, yet others say it has made a difference. Pete from ScoobySport gave a good explination on how the Turbo will spool up sooner and smoother with a de-cat centre and BB change.
I'm not that bothered about power gains (well maybe a little), I really want a little more noise .... but on the other hand I don't want to get more noise and loose power. (down pipe is not an option at the moment).
I'd like to hear the views (good or bad) from the MY99/00 owners (or any MY for that matter) out there that have changed the BB and put on a de-cat centre .... please

there are two types of magnex centre pipes. one with a resonator which cuts some of the noise. this one is about £50 more. it sounds good and doesn't give you a headache on motorways. the one without the resonator may be too noisy depends what you want.

With a Prodrive BB I don't think the noise levels will be increase much, as the Prodrive BB has good sound insulation, although it is a little restrictive.
Changing the centre with either a ScoobySport BB or TSL Grp'N' will change the sound. It will be a little louder, but IMHO the noise changes pitch slightly. It becomes more crackley and poppy, rather than a drone.
I'm not after too much noise, and have a full decat (ScoobySport DP, Magnex Un-Res Centre and TSL Grp'N' backbox).
Lagging the centre and/or downpipe with heatwrap (£1.35 per metre, 10M per pipe required) will cut down on the noise coming through the stainless, leaving you with just the noise come from the Tailpipe.

Was up at ScoobySport on Saturday having a Pagid Group N+ kit fitted (what a difference from the standard brakes!) and decided to get a de-cat center put on.
I'm pretty pleased with the results. There's more noise, the car seems to pull smoother, and up at 70-80 put your foot down ... and she flies!
I've found the ProDrive BB to be 'raspy' when you get to arourd 6K revs, but the de-cat seems to have got rid of the 'raspyness'. It also seems to have given me more revs in 3rd/4th and 5th gear ... Cool

I got the mangex centre section on my MY99, on top of the SS BB.
To be honest, best £60 I've ever spent. Can really hear the burble at low speeds and makes a mental roar when gunning it. Also get the odd pop or two when changing down on a nice and hot day.
Do it.

I've fitted the magnex res. centre, not to loud and pulls no problem. The way to go if you don't want to upset too many neighbours like me, but loud enough to get your own back if needs be

Im a magnex unres centre and 3.5" round BB runner and it sounds the absolute nuts!! DO IT....
TBH Im thinking its a tiny bit too loud on the motorway but reading above I might lagg it in heatwrap, or find someone who runs a resonated one who requires more noise and do a swap eh Jamie...
as for power, not sure its a big jump but its noticeable all the same and the acceleration when say at 60-70 going to ahem a ton is fandabydozy
I think it was summed up above when somebody said, "best £60 I ever spent", me too
Peanuts

I changed my standard centre to a magnex silenced (with a SS back box) and didn't notice much in the way of noise or power improvement (MY99). when i put the DP on tho... THAT was worth doing!

"If its too loud your too old" springs to mind
I've had a complete Decatted Magnex exhaust fitted to a WRX and wouldn't say the exhaust was that loud at all, you had to open the rear windows to hear it.
