Standard gearbox in 2.5 possible?
#1
Hi there,
I'm planning on buying a 2.5 405hp My99 GTT, and have one question.
I wonder what the necessity is of modifying the gearbox when I only use it for road driving and not for the circuit or for sprints. It has a 600nm Helix clutch fitted, but that is it.

Depends how much grief you give it, I suppose. I stripped 3rd on mine with only around 360ps, and repeated 3rd gear drags while mapping. It's being rebuilt with the PAR kit from Lateral Performance.
Regardless, I'd start the search for a spare gearbox now

Derk, do you already have a 2.5L shortblock? If not, I may have a cheap one for you, minus lower compression pistons but with new bearings and seals.

Richard: Thanks for the info. I'll keep it in mind.
Marnix: The shortblock (closed deck) is allready fitted. Only the Gems computer has to be adjusted. It appears that the tuner is not being supplied with the right info from Gems. He now suggests an Emrod computer to do the job, or does anyone have good connections with gems to supply the right data for the tuner?

Where did the block come from, who closed it for you? My ej25 will remain open deck - also looking for 400ps.
I'll buy the Gems if you want to sell

Derk GTT,
Do you have pictures of your closed deck block before the cylinder heads were mated to it?
What pistons do you use?
Cheers,
Marnix (also a Dutchie!)

Richard: The block I believe came shipped from New Zealand. It has been built-up by Beek Racing. I'll keep your offer for the Gems in mind.
Marnix: I was already wondering, where have I seen that name before :-). I'm afraid that I don't have any pics of the built-up. Maybe Beek has made some, but I kinda doubt it :-(. I don't know which pistons are used, but when I buy it I'll ask for as much details as I can get.
