Loss of boost
#1
Help please.
I was @ croft this weekend on a track day when i deveploped this problem.
In the morning sessions the car was fine, but after lunch my boost levels dropped off.
My car normally boosts @ 18psi, but as we progressed with the day it dropped to 15psi, then 10psi and even down to 5psi on the last few laps!!
I have also got a rattle noise coming from the rear of the engine (might just be a coinsidence)
I spoke to harvey @ the track (thanks again) and he thought it was the actuator. I have since changed this (thanks to andy @ grade a) but the problem has not really changed. It does seem to boost a little better, but i don't know if this is just me wanting to believe it was fixed!
The only thing i can notice is that the wastegate lever (attached to the actuator) seemed to have a little bit of free play in it's movement. Is this normal??
There is no blue smoke out the exhaust so i doubt the turbo is blown, could it just be that the wastegate is knackered, and if so can they be replaced??

A slowly growing split in the, umm, tube that goes from the actuator to the solenoid? ie the solenoid is slowly 'loosing control' of the actuator, so the boost is getting closer & closer to the actuator release pressue?
