Its very clever stuff. The ECU on a WRX has two sets of maps, one for manual and one for auto transmission. We load different maps into each section and you can toggle between them
On cruise determines its own fuelling requirements so you wont get a massive improvement in economy, but we could seriously reduce boost at anything much less than full throttle, so slight foot movements wouldn't really affect performance or fuelling. Economy would improve as the car would stay on its self fuelling cruise settings but performance would be well done. For long journey cruising, the loss of grunt shouldn't matter.
If you do come up to a Carrera 2 or 355, you can always toggle to the other map
**Edited to make sense!**

Hi,
I am getting an ECUTEK sometime soon and I have found info on the ECUTEK website about a feature that seems to makes it possible to switch between 2 types of maps.
This would be just what I need, one performance map and one eco-map that I can use on the Motorway when I drive long distances.
Has anybody used this feature that could explain how it really works or maybe some of the Tech-gurus like Pete and/or john could shed some light on the issue?

Here is some more info I found at the ECUTEK-site...
'EcuTek Map Switching allows dynamic selection of two sets of performance levels. To switch between these performance levels, the driver simply holds full throttle and toggles the rear heated window switch. This may be done with the engine off or on, so long as the ignition is on.

Hi,
Well as I understood it, you would only toggle the switch(on and then off again quickly) this would then trigger the map-change between the 2 maps.
Normal operation of the de-mist is therefor not affected...
