First signs of problems!!

Guys.
Can anyone fill me in on what a knocklink actually does? A lot of people here seem to use one amongst other things so I guess they must be useful?

I drive a WRX Sti Ver V that recently blew the big end! Would a knocklink have warned me in advance of problem?
Modified bit - I did a Forum search for knocklink so I now know what it is and what it does! Sorry, should have done that first.

Completed my full decat 4 weeks ago, full H&S system, sounds luvveerrrllyy 2 weeks later decided to fit a knocklink to check whats going on, now the weathers been quite warm recently so not many lights at all but this morn @ 6:50 the dreaded christmas tree reared its ugly head 6,500 rpm in 4th it lit up, whacked it in to 5th rapid.
Is this going to be about the norm 4 det occurance, or is it potentially a really bad setup, ive read that if you replace the K&N with a panel it wont light up that much?

Ive been wondering 4 a while as to whether to get a TEK3 with the doctor , but the fact the KL hasnt shown red & the damn cost of the thing led me to believe that perhaps with care i could survive without a remap.
I guess what im asking is, is it possible to get through with the odd light or am i pushing my luck & now is the time to bite the bullet

I would be very concerned, my import doesn't even light up the second yellow, in fact the first yellow only flicks on at 6500 rpm. I do have a panel filter though. Maybe it's time to get it re-mapped

no i dont use O/B, maybe its time to start using it, to be honest john, up until today id only had 1 green light come on, I was spanking that white scoob from 4 shed up the hill I thing we need another meet up at 3B mate

You haven't mentioned what kind of fuel you are using
I got red's on SUL but can only raise 2 greens max with Optimax
never liked the stuff much before.... but it seems to do good things det-wise.

this happened to me on WOT in 3rd/4th when i was using supermarket SUL (ie: crap fuel)
now i use opti and have had my sensor also resited and calibrated.
I also had a K&N....
not any more.
Green panel now and KL is more than happy.
