Ever since new, well nearly new, my 8 has a droning sound coming from the rear end/propshaft/wheel department.

Theres no real vibration as such, more a sense of it at a level I can't quite feel.

It's really strange. Is this a feature of the car on 18" prodrive wheels or a fault? I don't really want to take it to the dealers as i wouldn't trust them to service the ashtray!

At last someone else!
I have an STI7 and have a similar droning noise coming from the rear.
I took it to the dealers and they said "quite normal - but if it gets worse then bring it back"????
I can only assume it is normal?????

Sounds familiar. I've got it too on my UK300 with 225/40/18 Yokama AVS tyres.

Well, I'll get them to swap the bearings at the same time as they fumble around trying to sort out the rear strut knocking.

when they have sorted that, I can ask them to do something a bit more suited to their demonstrated tech. ability, like fill up the screenwashers!

And you think i'm joking? I'm not.

Took my 8 in for replacement discs under warranty. They only damaged 2 prodrive 18" alloys, which they have agreed grudgingley agreed to replace, but after I stuck to my guns and refused a courtesy car for a week or so whilst they sent them off for a non subaru warrantied repair.

Chancers or what?

Andy,

Please let me know how you get on, as I'm most interested.

Thanks,

Ian

I had mine checked at the dealers (including runing at up to 60mph on a four post lift with a stethoscope on diffs etc.) and nothing could be found. On road testing with the Mechanic we've agreed that it's tyre noise.

Regards,

Ian

Had the same sort of noise on my old P1. I swore it was wheel bearings as it got really quite loud at times.

However, it was the tyres. Amazing.

I've just swapped my tyres from Pirelli P Zero nero's to Michelin Pilots and its identical. I don't think its the tyres as it would come from all 4 in any case.
