Car won't start...
#1
It's MOT time and I have put the JECS back into my car and tried to start it - no joy.
Engine turns over but doesn't fire.
Works fine with the Link ECU though...
I have recently had the Lambda sensor replaced with the OE part and the Lambdalink is working normally so I would be surprised if it is that.
With the ignition on position 2, there is a clicking from around the turbo/coolant tank area so could it be the coolant sensor unless my ears are playing tricks and it is the boost solenoid?
No ECU error codes showing.
Aaahhh...
Any educated opinions welcome.
Thanks
Gavin

Gavin, could be that the maf hot wire needs a good blast with brake cleaner, it could be furred up from lack of use, normally this would heat itself to red hot on ign turn off to self clean, since it hasn't been used then this could be the problem. I've actually taken cotton buds to one in the past (carefully) and cleaned it up that way.

The most common cause of a pre 97 non starter is the water temp sensor. If its failed, the ECU will not invoke the cold start routines as the ECU thinks the engine is at 80degC.
The warm start in the Link map may have just enough cranking enrichment that it will still start even with a goosed sensor.

Thanks for the responses - I will try cleaning the MAF as Bob suggested although it hasn't been on the car but stored indoors with the JECS.
Failing that, Pete, can you quote me a price for a new coolant sensor.
Thanks

Don't want to put a dampner on things, but if the coolant sensor was broken the fans would be on constantly, and the CEL would be lit. Also the engine should start, although it will idle at approx 500rpm to start with and dislike any throttle input.
Would have thought more likely to be MAF, since mine won't event hint at starting with it disconnected.

I have tried the car again (without touching anything) and it started....
I managed to get down to the MOT centre and get them to check the emissions which were fine.
Thanks again for all your help.
Thanks
