Why should I? You have your opinion on Steve's mapping and I have mine. They differ. You're happy and I wasn't.
I will quote from a thread on the MLR which details all mappers for EVO's
"Steve Simpson
------------------
Generally good, particularly with rally cars. Road car experience is improving. Main weakness is that he doesn't spend enough time with the cars, and can't solve issues outside of mapping (e.g. boost leak etc) which some of the others can. Has had a lot of very good results, and some iffy ones too. Can do Motec, Gems, AEM and Autronics. A very, very nice guy."
The MLR thread is very good and informative but they've not heard of Bob Rawle yet so its not complete!
I'm fed up with people on here telling tales and I don't want Steve ringing me up again to ask me to shut up. He has asked me to refrain from "trying to ruin his livlihood" as he put it by posting on this thread (which had died down the bottom of the page before you and Stuart resurrected it). I was hoping to get people to be aware there is a choice when it comes to Gems mapping these days, and judging by the amount of emails I've had people out there are glad there now is a choice. I am not trying to ruin your livlihood Steve. You are a nice bloke and I DO like you.
I'm saying no more.....ok Steve? I didn't start this one off. I will not post anymore on this thread.

Steve Simpson (I hope I have got his surname correct?).
Other mods:
K&N Panel Filter, 17" Prodrive PD7s in anthracite (very cool looking wheel), B&M quickshift, 2000 model year crystal headlamps, Subaru driving lights, luminescant dials, 4 point harness, fire extinguish, 6 point FIA roll cage (no rear seat), uprated fuel pump + most important Black Diamond vented fromt discs and Ferodo ds2500 pads and 4 pot subaru calipers.
PS Plenty of dead flies on the front bumper today
PPS I still think theses cars are such good fun - even after 3 years of owning Imprezas (on and off)!

Andy - you are quite correct!
I think there is an article on Steve in this or last month's Car and Car Conversions Magazine.
Cost for a 1997 car (cheaper than the earlier and later Classics from some reason) was £1,395 + VAT.
For the gains I think it has to be one of the best days work I have had done on the car, very very worthwhile.

Richard, we'll have to get you over to a Heref/Worc meet so we can all check out your Sprint/Hillclimb beasty.
Sounds like we'll also have to get you along to our next Nurburgring trip, too!

Rik - sounds good (ps say hi to Karen - hope you are both ok?
Vigs - not sure about the torque, and bhp is largely not important, but what is important is how the power is delivered - i.e. smoothly and safely!
I am probably going to have a 2.2 or 2.5 engine conversion with a closed deck block next year and replace the 04 turbo with a bigger one.....I have discovered the only limiting factor to modifying a Scoob is my bank balance

Get it re-mapped as soon as you can if you want fuel economy. it will be mapped to use as much fuel on boost as it does on cruise. You will get 16-18 mpg or you can re-map and get 22-25 mpg.
Email if you want details. best money I spent with Gems was getting it mapped by another person to Steve.

Hypoluxa "it will be mapped to use as much fuel on boost as it does on cruise", this was borne out by the lambda reading from when it was on the rollers and also looking at the map prior to re-mapping.
Power figures are in front of me. Believe what you like.
Just trying to help because I found the car crap after Steve's mapping and it never ran right with the Gems. Now its been re-mapped it is a different car.
Sorry for my efforts and advice.

Tim the thread was about mapping a UK turbo so I assume you had mapped a UK turbo as it looks like you have a 280PS car to start with that explains your figures. I would be very suprised to see a Uk turbo running that power without some changes to the internals and plenty of boost.

I was just illustrating that the difference between 2 mappers for me was 27bhp and 38 ft/lb torque......the biggest plus was it ran well and was fuel efficient!

Glad to hear you are happy with your results...
Tim - oh dear -glad to hear you are eventually happy but dissapointed that you are being "economical with the truth" about the real reason for the poor results on your 22B.You know full well that you had a Pressure reg problem when I paid my last visit to you - the idle fuel pressure was 3.6 Bar and was not linear on boost- and we agreed you would change the reg and I would return to re-map.Since then Bob has re-mapped the car (and made a fine job!) - so why all the disparaging remarks about my "crap" mapping? Bob has E-mailed me regarding this and says he did tell you that the reg problem was "masking the original map".
At the end of the day I don't map cars as a hobby - this is my business and my only source of income!!The fact that I can pay the mortgage and maintenance must mean something.I think you should draw a line under your desire to keep attacking me,or if you want to have a go try 07836 635001 instead, otherwise I fear your remarks say more about your integrity than they do about my capabilities as a mapper.

Steve I have not changed the pressure regulator on my car Its still the same one since we last spoke. Ask Mark Aigin if he's sent me one or not.
I didn't ever say "crap" mapping, I said the car was crap. This I told you in person. The only thing I have ever criticised publically was the fuel economy.
I'm not attacking you in person at all, just saying what I found. It now runs fine and I'm happy with it. Nothing was changed on the car between your last map and Bob's, and Bob's is great. If you wish to debate this with me email me, don't post it here. I personally believe things about your mapping but I wouldn't post it here, but its nothing I've not told you already in person.
Best wishes
Tim
