Hi,

Does it clunk when you come to a stop or go over bumps?

I had a few clunks from the front, setting off and over bumps. The local garage thought it was a front drive shaft but under close inspection it turned out to be my antiroll bar drop links. My brakes also make a clunk now and again.

You could try jacking the car up and checking the drop link for play but that can be quite difficult as they are quite stiff. It would be easier if you could get it on a ramp.

It is most likely to be your brake pads relocating in the calipers

Yeah i agree with submannz, I had a problem last year with my pads moving about in the calipers. take the pads off and put some more copper grease on, that should temporarily stop the clunk. Your pads should fit snug into the retaining clips, if there is a lot of play then thats whats causing the pads to jump about. It all depends on the type of pad you are using weather they fit snug or not (some do, some dont). I had lots of play in my pads, copper greese helped but it wasnt sorted until i had a new set of pads in. But I still got some clunks now and again. But thats a thing of the past now because I have just had some subaru 4 pot calipers fitted this morning with Dba disks, exelent with no clunks what so ever.

Haven't got my scooby yet, but on my Pug 206, if you have hit quite a few pot holes with stiff suspension and large alloys, the alloy sometimes pushes out, and then whenever the wheel is in a certain position, it will hit the suspension arm. Check for marks on the arm. Just an idea.

Sparky , I am also getting a clunk from the front just after braking, I have also noticed that there is an extreme amount of brake just on the o/s alloy as opposed to the n/s. Could this also be the pads jumping?

I get this sort of clunk, usually when moving off from a standstill and turning to a 90 degree right or left turn. May get the clunk as going over speed bumps? Any ideas?

I think it is the a/roll bar drop links, as when I looked under the front, the bar was not quite centered and needs a knock over half an inch to even it up, maybe some clunk from the links trying to align themselves?

I have whiteline/scoobymania uprated a/roll bars and metal drop links/PU bushes at each end.
