Thunder, most diffs are about £300 - £350 secondhand. Sure ir's the diff? as there are problems with rear wheel bearing seals and there is a modified seal kit to stop water and grit getting into the wheel bearings and screwing them up.
Change a diff is a bit of a pain because it's labour intensive but should be no more than a couple of hours.
David APl lmprezas mail me on obriens1@btopenworld.com if you want more info. Good luck
