When I pull away from the lights hard I have trouble getting second and it just makes that horrible stripping sound, I used to be able to be quite aggresive with it but now its hopeless, 3rd was ok but i'm noticing that creeping in now

Its a 99 TEK2/decat with 42k on the clock.

Is it new gearbox time, if so is there anything I can buy extra when I have this done to make it stronger or whatever?

Baulk rings are probably worn (the actual thing that's the synchro bit ) - try to get some Castrol Syntrax tranny fluid in there and see if that helps.

Otherwise it's time for a rebuild and get new baulkrings (not that expensive, but the labour will be).

5 Type R, what was the cost?

Am I right in thinking this is a £700+ job?
