slight knock just off idle

my 97impreza turbo has got a slight knock just of idle above 2000rpm it seems to go away. The car has only coverd 31000miles perfomance is good and does not use any oil also it seems a bit stiff to get into 2nd gear (no grating just a little stiff comaparied to the rest is this normal any help would be great

Does it sound a little like an idling diesel? Probably the infamous piston slap...
Do a search, but if it does it only when the car is cold i wouldn't worry too much (unless it is pretty loud).
