I am running a 94 WRX on Optimax alone, which I think it generally has (or SUL) since being imported a few years ago...

Have been thinking of using octane booster as an additive, should be ok on just Optimax?

93 wrx jap import and i use optimax plus NF octane booster. Without it, my Knocklink wont stop flashing red. Car has induction kit and fully decatted. If the car was standard, i would still use NF as i lost my first engine by just running the car on optimax alone when it was standard.

Fuel is really a car by car issue though IMHO

This has also been debated quite extensively, a search should give you a number of threads.

I feel a remap coming on. I know its quite a big issue on STi's but not sure on the WRX.

Id be interested in what people are running them on, as well as what should be run.

Will have a search.

Check Andy F's post about mapping as an interesting fuel additive is discussed here.

93 wrx, centre de-cat and itg filter. Optimax or SUL, millers octane booster every other fill up. Never get past first yellow light on my knocklink, even on SUL alone I only use octane booster every other fill up as it's meant to be mixed with 50 litres of fuel but I can only ever get about 35 litres in so the fuel would get diluted by octane booster if I used it every time.

Cool

Used to use SUL & octane +. Then optimax & octane plus.
Now shes mapped for running purely on optimax with no additives.
If i`m running the strip I`ll stick a bottle of CVL in but for normal running jus optimax

Cheers

How much octane boost SHOULD you put in?

I was told about 50ml to a full tank.

Oh, Im using Optimax or Shell SUL with NF Octane boost.

I'm using 5ml per litre of fuel when it comes to NF race formula. Yes this is a lot but i dont give a monkeys about the price so long as that knocklink doesnt light up.

Talking

I run my jappy 95 WRX on just SUL 98 octane here in holland absolutely rag the **** outta the thing frequently down the Auto Bahns in Germany in or close to the red line full decat 12,000 miles like this so far not a hint of a problem if your burning pistons due to det then you must be very deaf because at that bad amounts of det you should be able to hear that audibly without the aid of a knock link also det damage to pistons should be similar on all 4 unless the problem has arisen from a faulty head gasket loss of coolant etc .. just what ive found from experience on many makes of cars hope it helps guys

Evo7 (aka Sam) did the map, we`ve been workin on it on and off for a whilst. BTW running a Link ECU rev Q sware
YM "big red" is a hybrid m8, she was a 93 WRX till i blew the engine last year (the land on no.2 collapsed) now she`s running an STi4 powerplant, with one of my own redesigned / machined front entry TD05 turbos with the original WRX drivetrain As u can imagine quite a nice little mover

94 wrx - optimax allways

I have had a scoobyecu remap though to be on the safe side. Not only do you get more suitable ignition timing but more boost also. Safer and faster.

James, which map did you get? I'm going to fit one soon from David Wallis for my 93wrx and wondered what you thought of it?

96STi RA ~ full decat & induction.
Knock link quiet on Optimax without o/b, but also quiet on BP SUL.

I still use NF though, but don't panic too much if I've run out.
