Is it me or the dealer who is mad?

Lads,
Rang a main dealer this morning asking for a price for a MAF sensor, and a Lambda sensor.
The lad in parts said that he had never heard of a MAF sensor?
Surely this cant be correct, he even asked me if I new where it was fitted????????
Anyone any ideas?

Well, the saga continues.
Had my car into the main dealers this morning for the idling problem to be looked at.
First they did a diagnostic check, no problems at all.
Then he said because the revs were hunting and not holding at all that it would need a new idle control valve (all £235inc vat) of it. I had previously suggested that I thought it may be the MAF (sorry the Aif Flow Meter!) but was given some starnge looks!
I said (cause I want my car fixed sharpish even though it is under warranty with the place i bought it from) go ahead matey!
He fits the valve, car still broken?
Removes it, refits my old idle control valve, and says to me "the valve must be faulty"!!!!!!!!
I say to him again, are you sure its not the MAF sensor or a lambda, he retorts "if it was either of them, it would have shown up on the diagnostic check?"
Is this the case, would a busted MAF or Lambda show up on a diagnostic check?, would I get a check engine light if either had gone.
This is fast resembling a Benny Hill sketch and I simply want my car sorting sharpish.
I am beginning to wish I had never taken it to a main dealer!
Any ideas or imput fellas, is as always appreciated.

I told you what they are like
£70 will get you a new MAF cartridge (not the whole thing) and changing it is a 10 minute job.
Suggest print the following off from the workshop manual - and show him the column for unstable idle.
The ECU often does not show a fault code for a MAF sensor.

Hi John,
I hope you are well.
Thanks for that, I will print it off and explain to the Subaru Enginner how he should be doing his job!!!!!!
It is ridiculous that a main dealer has no idea at all!
You stick with a main dealer because you beleive them to be the best, the most knowledgeable etc etc........it is just an absolute joke that they dont know their stuff.
The car is booked in at another couple of places early next week John, so once again, I will keep you posted, you never know, I may get three differemt stories about what is wrong with the car, when all along, you, me, and everyone else on this site knows it is the MAF sensor.
You live and learn I suppose!
