Exhaust popping sound..........info please.

G'day fellow scoobynetters.

I have a MY96 turbowagon, Uk model. As far as I can tell, the complete exhaust is Stainless ( subaru receipt from last owner ) and I have fitted an HKS super filter, apart from these the car is standard.

Last night and today I have noticed a popping sound from the exhaust. Last night while decellarating in 2nd gear at approx 5000
rpm and tonight at about 4500rpm changing from 2nd to 3rd after flooring the car round a roundabout.

Any ideas, the car was recently serviced by Subaru and the current
fuel economy for May is currently 24 mpg.

I would welcome any comments, and yes I have attended a couple of meets this month and driven the car fairly hard on occasion so no comments about my good fuel consumption.

Its just a bit of overfuelling. The unburned fuel hits the hot exhaust and combusts. Subaru's run quite rich, so its quite normal on overrun.
