Question

I wasn't planning to do any mods to the engine in my scooby at present (MY00 Classic UK Turbo) as I'm playing with suspension but was wondering if just changing the air filter would be worth while.

Obviously I will be playing with the engine once I've collected enough £'s together again!

Has anyone out there just changed the air filter over to the ITG panel filter. What kind of difference am I going to feel?

Just put an ITG replacement in my STI7, expect about 5BHP from it as it's much less restrictive than the standard paper type filter. I got mine at Japfest on Saturday so cannot comment on it yet.

I have been advised these are very good, however don't clean them with anything, replace it when necessary.

Thumbs down

I put an ITG filter into an otherwise standard MY00 Turbo and the difference I felt can best be described as.........nothing whatsoever. I think its all in the mind! Also, three weeks later, after reading a lot of comments on here about these things I took it out to have a look, and found my airbox had a pool of green sludge in the bottom that had drained off the filter. Yuk.
If you want the filter, (done about 300 miles) its yours for £15 plus postage!

I believe that the panel filter alone isn't going to do much. But when you free up the exhaust gases getting out of the car it can then move more air in.

Just my 2p worth

Sounded better in my MY01 - like sucking through your teeth in first and second (then I can't hear it over the decat)

The standard one was quicker than an ITG on my MY02 WRX

I have had an ITG in for 38k miles - and I know they say replace after 30k, but was recently at Scoobysport where it was looked at and it was almost spotless, so back in it went.

As it was in when I bought the car cannot comment on performance, but the induction noise is definitely louder than standard with it - more air and turbo-type noises!

As it stays in quite a long time, you can also save £20 per service when the air filter is normally replaced.

Jon.
