I have a My98 STIV4 and have been offered a front mount for a very reasonable price. The question is will I see and benefits from this or not. The car is standard apart from a full BPM exhaust and induction kit. I would like to crank the boost up slightly at a later date
Quick replies guys as I am going to get it this afternoon

Cheers

not worth doing with your mods.

the TMIC is plenty for a minor boost upage. the FMIC would add alot of lag to the system and would **** you off after a while...

but if its a good price and you intent to mod in future then maybe purchase it...

I dissagree and think it would be worth it if any ECU mods are going to be done, as it can mean more ignition advance and air density at the same boost. Lag isn't a significant factor.

Its true what was said previous then, buy it but dont put it on unless you fettle or change the ecu.
It will feel crap as standard....

yeah go for it,

Haven`t looked back since i put an FMIC on 2 years back, as Pavlo says allows more advance = more power with an aftermarket ecu

like i said, if you are going to mod further get it, but with your current setup its not going to really benifit you atall, if anything with the extra lag you may lose acceleration...

but if your gonna up the boost then its worth doing...

Moles Dad (RIP) had one on a standard UK car with Td04. No real negatives, slight increase in lag, but better performance.

Of course it will be better still with uprated ECU. But given that this is going on an Sti, I think it would be a good thing, as you would be running less knock correction as a result of the ignition map being based on 100RON fuel. Also the Sti is already looking at around 16psi of boost, enough to make the effects worthwhile, and reduced temps would increase engine safety.

Agree wih Pavlo, I added a APS FMIS to a standard STI V5 (all bar K&N filter) very slight increase in lag but the car felt much stronger and the boost stayed far more consistent even during a warmer day. Just for the record it was work in progress and now I have a decat exhaust and soon a remap

Cheers guys, I think i will go for it then, I want a remap soon aswell anyway. Who should i use and what sort of power should i be getting afterwards.

I got 294bhp but only 248lb of torque at the last rolling road day i went to. Ideally i want as much torque as possible as this is what matters when on the road. The bloke who ran the car said that the car was really rich in the mid range, I asume this would be sorted in a remap

I am only getting 14psi on full throttle. Is this correct as I was told this was correct. I get a spike to 17/18 but steady's itself very quickly back to 14psi

I will be fitting a full BPM exhaust inc downpipe at the weekend and a replacement up pipe to replace my scoobysport downpipe and current stainless exhaust
Cheers

Unless it is a pretty poor system I will be surprised if you can detect any more lag. Once the FMIC is fitted your engine has the possibility of breathing air at just over ambient, even when driven hard, whereas at present, induction temperatures are likely to soar on WOT. With the FMIC you are in a position to proceed with further engine enhancements.

Hi.No Ecutek(I think?) for the STi4 so best choices are Link/Gems/Motec.All have their pros/cons.Motec far too expensive imho for a road car.I had a Link on my STi4 and was very happy.Try www.brdevelopments.co.uk , Bob Rawle is the undisputed Link guru.
As for figures, difficult to say but your torque figure is quite bad and once tuned should be closer to the 300 mark. The driveabilty will be very much improved,ie it will boost a lot quicker and hold that boost all the way up instead of tailing off
