Some time ago I asked a question on MOTUL's website regarding the oil I should use in my MY03 STI.

Here's the answer.

Dear Sir,

As far as we know, Subaru do not provide any approval for engine oils.

Subaru and Motul have a strong technical partnership in WCR championship and based on this STI in Japan chose Motul to produce the STI / Subaru genuine engine oil. But this oil is recommended only for racing application.

For serial Impreza WRX/STI the Subaru requirement is : API SL/A1 5W-30. Therefore to follow this requirement, the best Motul product would be 8100 Eco-nergie 5W-30 or 8100 E-Tech Lite 0W-30.

Hello there,

If there is such thing, can you please send me on e-mail subaru's approval for using 300V competition oil on the new MY03 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. I am asking for this because my dealer is forcing me to use a different brand oil, sustaining that motul 300v grade is not approved for my car.

Seems it's time to change your dealer

 

I've been suggested (unofficially )from a Subaru mechanic to use Motul 300V CHRONO 10W40 on my brand new Impreza WRX03, if that counts!
