Adjusting the throttle position sensor on MY97
#1
Having had symptoms of bad idling (rapid fluctation between 750-900 rpm, falling to a constant 500 rpm when coasting after good run, lot of popping on over-run even though I have P1 catted downpipe, smells of partly burnt fuel etc), I tried looking at the TPS on an MY97 WRX.
Tested it in position and got resistance of 340 (closed throttle) - 6700 (WOT) ohms.
Found that taking it off, the spring was slightly tensioned against the throttle so I slacked off the TPS position so that the tooth was just resting on the throttle. Resistance range is now 180-6700 ohms.
Is there a correct way of setting the TPS up or do I just return it back to where I found it?
Running the TPS all the back to 180 Ohms causes kangarooing on overrun, esp at 2000 rpm, idle at 1200 rpm but no other problems as above. Fault code now shows up to be 31 (TPS).
Anyone care to comment that the TPS is shagged or I have set it up wrongly?
Just come across Ravensblade info and it looks like the resistance readings are very odd. Will try a new TPS.
In the meantime, are the original idle problems symptoms of the TPS?
Thanks
Nick
