Just wondering if anyone has had to replace the Denso Boost Solenoid due failure. I would expect the car to give 0.5bar boost approx only, if the solenoid does not actuate.

For those that have had a genuinely failed solenoid, was it accompanied by a Check Engine Light? Did the dealer diagnose it with the OBD2/select monitor, or was it just "good guess" troubleshooting?

Cheers.

Generally quiet good on reliability haven't seen one replaced yet under normal conditions.

Have only seen them replace ie 2 port for 3 port if people are running bigger turbos and are having difficulty with the 2 port making boost

Ok tks.

Reason I asked was because my car had, on occasion, given 0.5bar boost with no explanation. Wasn't even hard driving. I checked the fault codes with the PSI3 and there were none.

Seems to happen once in 3 or 4 months for couple of mins. And then goes away just like that. I have just replaced the boost solenoid, see if that makes a difference.

Its the no fault codes in the ECU that puzzles me. If the ECU has commanded safe/reserve mode boost, surely there'd be something stored in there?

are you sure it's not the emmision bypass ecu trick ?

hold it in 2nd about 3000rpm (think it's above 2000-2500 ??) and then stamp on the gas .. it will only hold 0.5bar. let off & re-apply and it will boost properly.
only does it in 2nd !

I thnk i have this problem, some times the car only pulls 0.5 bar. also it does not seem to boost up to 1.2 bar all the time, like it should with the prodrive performance pack.

Aware of that emissions test.
Mines a JDM STI tho, so I don't think that applies.
Also did it in all gears, 2nd 3rd and 4th.

I'm hoping its just a sticky solenoid.
