I have just acquired my second Impreza turbo; it’s a MY01 car in sonic blue.
(Fortunately it’s had the headlight conversion).

The car has the full de-cat exhaust (including the up pipe). Also a forge vta dump valve.
I would like more power and especially more torque.

The only option that I am aware of is either the TEK2 or TEK3.

I had my classic Impreza re-mapped at Power Engineering and was pleased with the results, so I am tempted to go the same way with my new one.

However I am keen to know if there are any other options.
I am also on a budget and don’t want to spend any more than the cost of the TEK2/3, which I understand is currently 650 + vat.

I remember reading lots about the Dawes device for increasing boost, would this work on a bug eye scoob or is it just for the classic?
Also I guess with the Dawes device you need a boost gauge fitted and probably a knock link sensor?

Any suggestions please?

Graham.

EcuTek works very well on the MY01/02. Dawes would work too.

Other worthwhile mods which will give you a bit more torque and power.

Replace the intercooler hoses (<£100). Get the headers ported (do it yourself, or pay perhaps £200). Replace the inlet pipe (forget, but think between £100-200 for the part, but it's a pain to fit). Replace the intercooler (APS toop mount £600)

I've got a full APS sports cat exshaust, decat up-pipe, ported headers and samco intercooler hose with a Power Engineering Tek2 , giving 260lbft from ~2750rpm upwards on the rollers, and peak of 272lbft. May well get round to doing the inlet pipe and intercooler at some point

Hi Graham

You won't find a better way of doing this than with an Ecutek remap. With your set up, torque from a Scoobysport Ecutek map is over 270lbft and the car is really something to drive

The limit of what is achievable is the size of the turbo and the injectors and further mods, such as those listed by Hades are good but won't give you more if you do decide to have an Ecutek remap.

There's a list of authorised Ecutek mappers at http://www.ecutek.co.uk/frame_pricing.html and details of how it works, elsewhere on Ecutek's site.

Thanks Pete,

I think I may have spoken to you on the phone about a week or so ago.

I think I shall go for the ECUTEK.
Is it the TEK 3 for my car?

Just need to save some money up.

Graham.

Graham

I have a MY02 with full decat also. My ECU is at Scooby Sport at present for an EcuTek remap. I'll let you know how I get on.

It is indeed the Tek3 for you. As you are so close to us, you have no excuses for not having a very nice map installed here at Basildon

wwp8

As Taylor said, we can do a postal map too. Its very close to our full Tek3, but as we cannot test and tweak it on your car there a little bit kept in reserve. Then again, Yorkshire is only 4 hours drive and you will luuuurve the drive home

I can only answer for the Dawes questions. Yes will fit a bug eye, Yes a boost guage is a very good idea ( to know what its boosting to ) and I think a knock sensor is a good idea. If you do a search you will find loads of info on the dawes and knocklink but my own experience was it was easy to fit, easy to set to the boost level I wanted (with a guage). It seems to get to higher boost levels quicker and stopped the spiking.
