Has anyone compared the reaction times of different boost control devices. What I mean is which one reaches the desired boost quicker (asuming the turbo being used has no surging issues) and can mantain it.
As far as I know and tried, the Dawes device (spring & ball) is the quickest and very efficient ..... what about your regular jap electronic boost controller like HKS EVC, Greddy, etc. ? ..... do they reach full (desired) boost like a spring & ball or just a tad slower ?????

I have had a Race Dawes, Apexi AVC-R, HKS EVC4 and Currently have the Blitz SBCidII on my car..

First off, The Dawes wins hands down for spool up..

Secondly, The Apexi is a very close second to the Dawes...

The HKS was alright for spool up but i didnt find the boost control any good...

And the Blitz... The most expensive one.... It has gain settings to control spool up, or try to.. i get real bad boost spiking if i set the gain where it should be. This is on my current turbo and my old TD05..

My opinion.. you dont get what you pay for.

Uhmmmm so the Dawes still spools up faster ..... definetly the best VFM ..... I thought that the HKS EVC 4 had also gain control (iirc it is called offset by HKS) and that it gave good and stable (little oscilation) boost control .

I have used Blitz SBC, DSBC, and DSBC Spec-R ( glitzy DSBC ) and HKS EVC 4+5
Have come across Dawes once, but personally, after using ebc's for a while now, I wouldnt bother trying it. The ebc's give far more accurate control, and is so easily adjustable in car.
All of the above have 'gain' for faster spool up, just some are easier to use than others. I am currently using the Blitz SBC on my Subaru, and Blitz DSBC Spec-R on my Granada, and both do an excellent job. The DSBC is a lot better, with more features.
The HKS EVC 5 was the fastest spool up of all, although it has an operating limit of 1.5bar, so not really much use if you need more.
HKS EVC 4 works very well too, and will cope with 2 bar and has full closed loop operation AFAIK.
I see no reason for using any boost controller more expensive than these, as they are all just flash. Their function doesnt change much with the price. All the ones I mention are quite easy to operate.
Ive looked at instructions for the Apexi, but it does look trickier to use, although many people give good reports about it
