What with the recent Knocklink group buy (thanks tweenierob), there may be a few people who, like me, want to know how to get their intercooler off.
Mines a 93 WRX and after removing the three bolts and the hose from the front of the intercooler whats left to dismantle?
How do I get to the hose pipework underneath?

Or, if I put the car up on ramps, can I get to the block easily enough to fit my sensor without having to remove the I/C?

You're almost there! Theres just the hose from the turbo outlet to loosen, then, in theory, it will come off. Its a tight squeeze so be prepared for a lot of swearing and the use of controlled brute force

Edit to say remove the hose to the dump valve also. The hose connected to the underneath of the IC is hard plastic rather than silicone, it leads to the turbo outlet and the dump valve, this stays bolted to the IC when you remove it. Its a good time to uprate to a Samco turbo hose set if you are planning on upping boost, believe me you don't want to remove the IC twice, its a bitch.

To put it back, heat the end of the the plastic hose with a hair dryer or something similar. This way it goes back onto the turbo a lot easier.

Jay m A - I think you and I take longer because it's our car and we haven't done it a hundred times. I've seen a Scooby technician take it off in around 2 minutes. Putting it back took 3 or 4.

Depends whether you´re still on the Subaru hoses - they can be a bit of a b*stard

Did mine recently on a 93 wrx, was a bit of a struggle. Have to be a bit more forceful than you want to really! I replaced my hoses with samco ones at the same time as I was loosing boost and had been told that the plastic pipe on our cars has a habit of cracking. Sure enough, when removed, I found a small split in the flexible bit of it. Now I have most of my boost back I was also told to warm the engine a bit first as this helps removing the pipe from the turbo.
