I bought a PPP ECU recently from a nice chap off here who had upgraded to a Link.

Little did I know at the time that I was buying the PPP board only as the seller needed to keep the case to keep his Link ECU in as it doesn't come supplied with a case.

Can anyone help me track down a case for the link ECU which will allow the seller to send me 'my' PPP case. I am amazed there is no proven process if all Link ECUs are supplied 'naked'

I have now paid for four cases through 'Wanted' but only received one and that was the wrong size!

Help me please someone, what have you guys and gals who have gone the Link route done with your old ECU's

Adam

Question

What does a case look like?
Have you tried people like RS components, Rapid Electronics etc, both of which sell "Instrument cases" in sizes ranging from 1.5" square, right up to 12" square. They will sell to you via the net too.
Cheap, held together by screws, waterproof ones available etc etc.

I keep mine as a spare.

All you have to do, is get him to put it in a suitable box with plenty of bubble wrap and then post it to you. You then just use your case from your car.

Takes about 10 minutes to change them over.

Link ecu boards are just a board that fits nicely in the standard ECU casing...they are not delivered with the said casing...

Haven't you got the old one left from your car, to fit the PPP board in?

I do have the board in my old AE801 case, which means i now have a board (the 801 - which i want to sell) but no case. I was going to leave it at that, but I'll probably go for a Link, Tek3 or something, then I'll need to sell the PPP and the 801 to raise funds - but (if I get a link) I won't have cases for either of them. I thought it would be a reasonably simple process to get hold of a metal case, which I could post back to the guy I bought my PPP from and get the pukka PPP case to make selling it easier in the summer when I upgrade.

As an related aside, if the PPP ECU is for a MY98 classic I would be intersted in it when you sell.

So..you've got a case..which is your original AE801 case, but you want the PPP case..to make it all nicey nicey neat and tidy?

Why don't you and the chappy who sold you the PPP swap cases?.

When you go to sell the PPP you can ask the next owner to swap a case with yuo to keep things in order?

Scratch only for a MY99 or MY00 i'm afraid

AlanG
As above I have two ECU boards and one case, I know I could 'swap' cases, but I'll still have two boards and one case. If i can buy another case then I'll have.....

Swap cases now and sort that problem first as standard cases will be easier to find later. Then, keep searching for a knackered ECU so you can just use that case to sell it.

Also, try the likes of John Banks, BRD and Power engineering to see if they have any spare cases, or would like to buy a bare board for a TEK spare. You never can tell.

Good idea I hadn't thought of trying John, I'll send him a mail and see what he says.
