Different Dump Valve Question
When stationary you need to rev the car a lot harder - then you'll get the WHOOSH! So, yes, everything sounds normal.
[Edited to say:] the popping is normal with a VTA Dump Valve. If you have a full de-cat it's even better! - FLAMES!

I have just had a Turbo XS VTA fitted to my Scooby. My concern is while the car is in motion the dump valve works fine ( whoosh sound ), but when the car is stationary revving the engine does not produce any whoosh. Is this correct? Also I am now getting occasional popping from exhaust. Help please. Is everything Ok or is failure of somthing imminent ?

I think that a turbo will only work if there is a load on the engine (i.e. when moving the car along the road) From stationary, just revving the engine will not engage the turbo, and thus, the VTA will not vent
Brett 555, No dont really want F & F style, problem was used to have another type of turbo charged motor with a dump valve also and it worked whether car was in motion or not so when this one didn't do the same I immediatly started reaching for the panic button.
( calming down now though )

Never had any other Turbo car, so I have nothing to compare it against. But this is definitely normal with Impreza's. When the car's in motion, I usually hear the dump valve when off-boost at about 2.5K revs, but when stationary, I have to rev it to about 6K+ to hear it. I'm sure everything's fine
