I know that there has been numerous posts regarding piston slap but I haven't a clue if this is what I have.
At c2,000-2,500 revs I have a tappety noise that goes goes "tick, tick, tick" and then disappears and only appears to occur on falling revs (I can't hear it with rising revs).
It is noisier from cold (although not noisy) and becomes quieter when warm but never goes.
Piston slap appears to be a hollow noise from what I have read where this is definitely a tappety noise and on cars I have had previously would have been cured by adjusting the tappets - those were the days!.
Most posts seem to say that piston slap disappears when the engine is warm (and that is does not harm!?).
I have read that it could be:
- piston slap.
- heatshield.
- tappets.
- cambelt tensioner.
I have recently replaced the cambelt, plugs and oil and don't recall hearing it before but can't swear it wasn't there.
Any ideas guys?.
