I only do about 5,000 miles a year and so I was wondering when it would be sensible to get my cambelt changed as it will probably be dust by the time I get to 45K miles.

I remember my mother-in-law's Rover manual said that it should be every 5 years or 45k miles (whichever is sooner).

You forgot one factor, cambelts sort of degrades over a certain period of time. Changing it is a good idea..

Does the service interval include a time aspect? I can't remember but i'm certain it's either a mileage or time period, what ever is sooner. I would check your manual....

I believe its 45k or 3 years, whichever is sooner. (I am assuming your car is a classic shape?)

Yeah, it is a Classic shape. I kinda figured it would be 3 years but thought I'd see what other people thought.

Depends on the reg, but its either 45k/3yrs or 60k/4yrs, I also do low mileage so will be hitting the 4 years way before 60k, but it will be getting chaged at 4 year service.

It depends on the size of your wallet - 230 quid every three years or pay out 2000 after 4-5 years when your timing belt gives way and your valves start playing "pinball" with the cams.

It's your choice but I know what I'd do
