Getting the spark plus out.
#1
OK I am lost, tried at the weekend and couldn't get them out cause the spark plug socket I was using was too lagre and felt as though it was scraping the block rather than mating with the plugs. Tried it with a slimmer verion as well but still no joy.
The hole down to the plugs is rather deep so I was wondering....
Is there a special attachment designed to remove Impreza plugs?
Do I need to remove anything part from the HT lead to get them out?
Am I just a muppet? PFR7B's - 14mm right? (13 didn't work either) Is someone now going to tell me they are 10mm now?

Have you tried using a "wobbly end" (not sure what the proper technical name is for that!) It's an attachment you put between the socket and ratchet/extension. I used that on my MY97 - it allows you to feed the socket into the plug chamber perfectly straight whilst operating the ratched drive at an angle.
Not sure how different a MY00 is to the 97 in this area but it may work.....

Yea I have a universal joint but that fact the the sparkplug adapter doesn't even met up with the plug is what is getting me. It is just too bit to get down the hole. Have been speaking to my mate and he says the guys working on his audi use a special one so I could be the same.

NO ITS NOT, thats the rocker cover, whatever you do do not remove that.
Just remove the plug leads, use the slim plug socket (has to be a plug socket) with a 75mm extension and "feel" for the plug, the hole is large and its possible to get the socket offset and miss the plug.

DOH! Thanks Bob, good job I didn't try that, thought it was a bit complicated to get them out, used a mirror to look down the plug holes and saw the plugs. It is a 10mm plug not 14mm that I had to use. No wonder the the 14mm wouldn't get down there, far too big!
It always seems to do it when warming up in the morning, sometimes in the evening but not as much. Will try to catch it in a datalog and see if you can point out the fault.
So yea got them out and checked the gapping. 0.7mm OK so its not that. Colouring looks OK, sort of rusty light brown with a dark blue nib.
So what now? What about coils or changing for PRF6B's. Where are and how do I check my coil(s) have I got one big one or 4 little ones?
