just spoke to Greenlight,(my insurer!) as I'm thinking of de-catting and going loud. No prob on the backbox change, but the de-cat request came back with...oooh not sure if the insurance will be void, as the car may not be road legal (i.e fails emmissions).
A lot of scoobynetters have de-catted, so how do you deal with this 'grey' area. put me off unless.....

tbh it seems the insurers often dont know.
i asked the same compnay the same decat question a number of times (diff operators), and then rang some companies and did the same thing.
got many varied responses. it seems if you have valid mot cert and declare you have mod'd car then its ok. how they categories or charge you for the mods seems pot luck on the operator.
seems weird to me really as you get an mot cert then make your car effectively illegal and still get insured.
suppose you have to look at it like this. if you had an old banger with the floor falling out and is unsafe but still has some mot left then you can drive it. the fact it would fail an mot doesnt stop you getting insured whilst is has a valid certificate.
just my thoughts and experience but i am no expert

I'm also with Greenlight, when I said full exhaust, the guy actually asked me if it was a Scoobysport one, I didn't think they'd kniow such stuff, but apparently they're not that far from Scoobysport, so it seems they get it quite a lot.
Can't see how it void the insurance if you tell them!
