Just booked my MY99 in for a 60k service.
Dealer advised replacing the K&N panel filter (which the previous owner fitted) with the stock item.
As I bought the car 3 months ago with a Subaru Proven warranty, do I need to take this advice to preserve the warranty?
Does the filter make any difference to performance anyway?

Say yes, but of course tell them you wish to sell the filter on to pay for the new one. Then stick it back in after. They really are after your money, but if you were to make an engine related warrenty claim then they'll kick up a fuss if you don't take them up on their kind gesture .
TBH the resonator is quite a restriction, so unless you remove this (which will have the same implications on the warrenty), I doubt you'll even notice the change in filter anyway.

Erm slightly concerned here. Did they sell you the car, as you say it has Subaru Proven Warranty, which is their used car warranty IIRC.
You also say it was in the car when you bought it?
So if they sold the car to you (I assume they did), and they carried out their appropriate checks before selling, so that subaru proven warranty could be issued, then why was it not spotted then?

Thanks P20SPD,
The servicing dealer is local to me, the selling dealer was Lancaster Subaru - see post on Dealer & Third Party...
I can feel another phone call to Steve coming on - I needed to ring him back anyway
