used to get 280 miles in my97 turbo with mongoose systen inc d/p, then got the ecu modded and changed to a blitz-nur spec with h+s d/p and it increased to 310, and was still running rich

just fitted a magnex downpipe to my 97 turbo and now i get 300 miles to the tank full (some easy driving, some selfish driving), as opposed to the 200 i was getting before!!! my god i never thought id see the day: now she almost seems efficient. almost.

anybody else experienced this? i cant rate it highly enough, and this is ignoring the other benefits of increased torque, go and seriously awesome exhaust note. For once, a mod has actually exceeded my hopes. aaah..

I don't know much....I am just hoping that you are not running very lean (due to the decat without map etc) hence the low gas consumption....just a thought...but then you said you had an afr so I guess that is out the window

Cheers and Congrats !

Thumbs down

had the magnex system on my 97 and it was good, then fitted the downpipe and it suffered from overboost - not good

the afr is showing nice and rich, so im assuming all is well. do i need to get my ecu remapped (its the OE ecu) just cos i fitted a downpipe? i knew posting this thread would be asking for trouble!!

any advice'd be appreciated.

Cheers,

Hey man, as I stated I am no expert. I would wait until you get a reply from John, Pete, Pat, Bob or some of the other pros..

Good luck matey, but if it is rich chances are you are ok without a remap; however, you would definately some significant punch down low with a remapp.

Cheers,
Ray

Thanks man, deeply cool login by the way.

Im keeping my fingers crossed for no added expense (this month at least) and that my AFR isnt under-reading by exactly the amount that it takes me to destroy my engine. Has got me thinking though: i should know full well that all that glitters is not gold in the world of subaru. Is there anyway of testing either an afr or the richness of a car independently to double double check?

Thanks all.

I suspect if you saw such a massive increase then you cat was on the way out and may have been partially blocked.

The normal increase is 20-30 miles per tank, assuming you don't use the extra power

It won't be running lean, but will be getting better volumetric efficiency, hence the free miles

one more thing (said in best Columbo voice) Kenny C- where did you get your remap done? how much did it cost and how much improvement did you get (besides the mpg)? any recommendations anyone... can i just get my OE ECU reprogged then? is that what you all do?

thanks,
B.
