Red face

Just fitted a Forge VTA to my my99, worked fine for about 20 minutes, now all of a sudden, under heavy acceleration I am getting a high pitched squeal from the turbo!! Very loud and extremely worrying!! No drop in performance though and doesn't happen until about 4.5k RPM.
Needless to say, I have just taken the DV off and replaced the standard unit.
Any ideas on what it could be? and is it worth getting worried over??
Thanks fellas!!

Come on guys!! I'm sure someons has at least an idea!! Sat here sh***ing myself!! Sounds like it could be either power steering fluid (plausible as engine did seem very hot and was getting some noise turning the wheel, but seemed to make the noise in a straight line??) Or maybe a blown turbo. But then surely I would have felt a loss in power??

Wink

Have taken the forge DV off and replaced the standard one, will find out if that works tomorrow. Thing is, which hose could have been loose?? I am sure that the small one was on tight, and the bung in the larger hose seemed ok too?? Any ideas??

if the spring in the forge isnt strong enough for the boost level you are running, then the charge air will leak out through the vent in the dumpvalve.
note its during mid range revs it starts, this is normally where peak boost pressure occurs.

hope this helps
ian

p.s. think you can shim the spring on the forge to preload the spring a little. this should do the trick if the spring is the problem.
also stronger springs available.

Had exactly the same problem, sounded like it was coming from the turbo.Couldnt find any leaks anywhere so we pulled out the turbo and sent it off to Turbo Tacnics who said there was nothing wrong with it (but still replaced two hundred quids worth of bearings and seals for good measure) Now doing TD05 conversion while we're at it.

We tried that too. Made no difference but by slipping the clutch against the brake/throttle we could get it to make the noise whilst stationary and it definately sounded like the vicinity of the turbo. (clutch did'nt like it much)

Nope. Apparantely none of the above!!
Took the forge off and replaced the original, but still doing it, only if anything a little worse. Apparantely it is the bearings in the turbo, so it has to come off and go for repair! I have a 2 year warranty from a warranty company though, which will hopefully cover the costs. Hopefully!!???
Means my scoob is off the road for a while either way
I only bought it 2 weeks ago!! I'm not finished having fun yet!! Life is so unfair!!

Are you sure its the turbo? I can tell you from experience that its a lot of hassle/expense if it isn't.

Found out what was causing our "turbo" noise last night. We were having difficulty refitting the intercooler pipe back onto the turbo so we removed the pipework from the matrix only to find a hole about the size of your finger nail in one of the gaskets at the corner right above the turbo so the boost pressure had been forcing out of the hole causing the noise.

Have you checked all the connections? Sounds like you may have a loose one somewhere.
