Question

What's that cylindrical thing above the Power steering resiviour in your photo??? Also is the turbo induction hose a worthwhile mod if still running with a MAF sensor???

Strongly advise refitting your heat shield to the turbo, you are adding alot to the charge temperature without it.

Ive got a Blitz Induction kit and never thought about this. Then again its only gone on recently.

How hard was this to do? Where did you pick up the tubing from?

It's relativly easy.
You need to remove the resonator in the wing, and feed the pipe from the front bumper. It would probably take the best part of an afternoon if it's your first go.

I got the pipe from my old work. It was used as part of the air extraction system from the techs bench's. You could probably pick something up from a DIY store.
The wider the feed, the more air will flow to the induction kit. 3 inch is about all you'll get through the wing

To be sure it was worth while doing, I first jammed the pipe between the drivers window, with one end outside the car, and one end pointing inside the car

The good thing about it is that it is not only supplying cold air to the induction kit, but it is actually forcing cold air into it. The 3 inch feed picks up a fair amount of air.

scotty,

You are right that the cold air will be directed at the filter, but this isnt quite the same as enclosing the filter in a box to provide a cold air feed under positive pressure. Theres your next task! Do it that way, and the turbo heat sheild will be less of an issue, although it is still worth sorting.

PS: Did you loose the hoseclamp that holds the maf to inlet duct hose onto the inlet duct, or didnt it fit?

The clamps just missing in the pic.

Alan G recommended what your saying a few months back to me too, so I guess it's time to get the finger out.
The thing is, I am totaly crap at making boxes.

Do I keep the feed that is on now, plus enclose the induction kit in a box with a feed blowing air into the box, or just use a box with a feed, and ditch the current feed going straght into the cone?

Well, if you want positive feed pressure, you would need to feed the cold air into a box that is sealed around the feed and the filter duct, such that the fast moving air has nowhere to go but into the filter, hence pressure in the box should be higher than a non sealled system. Ken's partition will certainly help keep temps down, but that is not a sealed box, so you will not gain any "ram air pressure" advantage.

Cool

Deos it matter what volume the box is?

Can it be just big enough to fit round the induction kit?

Cool

Ended up using my own judgement for the volume of the box and came up with this:-

I'm off to see if it fits

Thats much too restrictive, calculate the area available to airflow thro the filter, you need at least that much.

I have made a cold air pipe that rams it into the std air box and it reduce lag and increased throttle response big time!

I am sure you could make it easy using 90mm storm pipe.

Cool

Knocked this up as a template.

Any objections to the size of box being used?

I could probably make a half decent box with some tin or perspex.

Question

No one knows

I don't want the induction kit to be suffocated or starved of oxygen
