After reading loads of info. on the web i am starting to worry if I have an induction problem. My car (99 UK turbo) is fitted with a K and N 57i induction kit. When the car is revved in neutral you can't tell the 57i is there. However, when under load it makes a very distinctive sucking noise under boost. i'm not talking about a little whistle, it sounds like an air line is under the bonnet!!! Also, I have no after market dump valve, but when i lift off the throttle, the standard (recirculating) unit is clearly audible. Is this normal or have I got a leak or something.

Please excuse my apparent dumbness.... I bought the car with most of its mods already on it! Sorry!!!!

MINE THE SAME M8 I THINK ALL SCOOBY HAVE DUMP VALVES JUST NOT TO AIR BUT WHEN YOU PUT A INDUCTION KIT ON IT MAKES THE SOUND LIKE YOU GET FROM DUMP VALVE THAT VENTS TO AIR MINE DOES IT I LIKE IT IT ROARS WHEN I PUT MY FOOT DOWN AND GET THE WHOOOOSSHHHHH WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF OR CHANGE GEAR

 

Perfectly normal noise with a 57i

 

I use still the original filter housing, but without the plastic thing in the fender. It makes a very F-16 style sucking noise when accelerating... Very Nice...

 

After a bit more investigating ( by doing a search on scoobynet......doh!!!!) i realised it was normal but id already posted the thread. Im glad its been confirmed anyway........

p.s. I love the noise anyway!! Bit annoying when cruising on the motorway though and coming on and off boost!
