Can anybody please advise on the following, ideally in layman’s terms.

I have a full decat with a remapped ecu. Turbo boost limited to 1.2 bar.
I have recently read several topics regarding popping exhaust noise and always considered this to be normal, however recently some have suggested using a knock sensor or risk blowing engines.

Do I need a knock sensor?? Is it easy to fit or does it need professional installation and what does it do??

Have I been running my car in ignorant bliss? The car seems to be running fine and was re-mapped about six months ago.

Thanks,
Graham.

JB advises that I get the knocklink primarily because i have a dawes (manual boost controller). If my car was to det without me knowing about it then there would be no way for the ECU to stop it. At least when the ECU is in control it has a chance!

It certainly wouldn't do any harm to have one as a indicator of general engine health

I have recently bought a Knocklink and am just waiting for the weather to give me a break and let me fit it. ECU then winging its way to Dr Banks.

Personally I doubt I will ever light it right up, but for the piece of mind in knowing the car is being checked it has to be worth it.

Don't start worrying about every little pop you get from your exhaust though.

A Knock link is a worthwhile investment for any modded car (IMHO)
You can't adjust anything with it (apart from your foot on the gas) and it wont make you go any faster. But it may stop you doing damage to the engine that could have been avoided if you knew what was happening.

Fitting is quite straight forward if you know witch end a screwdriver to use. There's a bit of wiring involved but nothing complicated a novice couldn't be talked through
