Question

Can anyone tell me whether or not a diesel car can be made into a duel fuel car and what the performance difference would be?

Also, has anyone done it to a Scooby as I refuse to pay the congestion charge.....the b8stards

thanks in advance for any help and apologies for the outburst!!

Duel fuel - you want a fight with Ken?

Dual fuel - you want to burn LPG? To burn LPG you start with a petrol engine, both petrol and LPG are spark ignited. Diesel engines are compression ignition and can burn a huge range of diesel type fuels, like cooking oil.

Sorry what was the question again?

You can use LPG with diesels but it's not a true dual-fuel cos the LPG is only run in addition to the diesel at the same time to either improve economy or power (can't remember!). Probably power I think cos diesel has far higher calorific than LPG.

General concensus is that it ain't worth the bother on a diesel, only use it on a petrol for the cost gains which would make it cheaper than an equivalent diesel anyway. But I wouldn't consider LPGing the scooby.... combination of the turbo and flat-4 will make it very expensive and I wouldn't trust it to not go bang either

PS I'd just buy a cheap secondhand car that has already been converted and use that for running into london and keep the scooby for other days. You can buy LPG cars almost as cheap as it would cost for the conversion these days... just get it checked out and make sure the conversion is sound before buying.

Diesel cars can even be made to run on cooking oil. Its funny because I'm not even joking. Custom and Excise don't see the funny part of it though.

Just coz it runs on LPG you won't escape the charge - it also has to be on an approved list....
