jo, what MY have you ?
The MAF is different on pre 98 (I think) cars - and can be affected by oil drops. However, ITG Panel filters are
a) not dripping with oil
b) usually OK - much lower risk than induction kits
I don't recall seeing anyone on here with MAF probs with ITG panel Filters...
Hope this helps,
Mark

Common debate, some people swear by them, some say they can damage the MAF. IMHO the green gunk (not actually oil) will run downwards into the airbox rather than upwards towards the MAF, so shouldn't cause any problems. That is certainly what has happened in my car. Gives slightly better flow and apperently doesn't clog up as badly as some.
One interesting factor. Autospeed have done various tests on the induction system, and you get a much worse restriction over the air intake resonator than you do over a standard air filter. Hence, induction kits that remove the resonator but still have cold air feed from somewhere tend to give better power, but can either allegedly damage the MAF (vibration or oil contamination) or cause it to misread and necessitate a re-map.

DJ I think that is what we call the plecebo effect! On its own I cant see how fitting a new air filter can make any noticable difference. I fitted/removed mine several times and could never convince myself it made any difference at all, just wishful thinking to justify the forty qiud i fear! And yes, it does fill your airbox with snot!
