Someone's just kindly donated the above to Richard's 'Quest for Power' It's apparently in good order and complete.....it would be rude not to, really
I was looking at treating my engine to some lighter internals at the end of this summer anyway - what are my options with mating the 2.5 short motor to my heads?
Are there strengthening items available for the 2.5? On my 2.0 I was looking at pistons/rods/head studs plus consumeables - is there anything I need to add with the NA Legacy?
Thanks
Richard

Richard,
Are you going to turbo it?
Seems that experience in the US is that the 2.5NA block does not like much boost without major upgrades. Up to about 10psi is a number oft mentioned...some say as little as 7. And the power at those levels is not that wonderful...

dowser - yes it's simple, just remember to use your EJ20 gaskets. If you're keeping it N/A, drop us an email -> info@ionperformance.com we have a whole host of N/A modifications for the Legacy available.

Richard,
Being N/A, the EJ25 runs very high compression, and the pistons/rods are based on an engine running 165bhp.
There is no way I'd run an EJ20 head gasket, firstly the compression ring will be in the wrong place, secondly, the edge of the gasket will be exposed, thirdly, it would effect your compression height, forthly, if you change the pistons to lower compression, you would have to make sure the piston deck height was well below the top of the block, otherwise, you'd be hitting the gasket.
There are "off the shelf" products to do this correctly.
Mark.

How could you use an EJ20 head hasket??? I may not know much about the EJ25, but I do know the bore size is a good bit bigger then the EJ20, which would mean that it is very unlikey the head gasket would actually seal???

The EJ20T head gasket can be used as long as the bore is trimmed. Otherwise, what would need to be done is to machine the heads slightly to match the bore, and run the EJ25 gaskets (there's a new P/N that works quite well).
dowser - It was assumed that you wanted to run the engine in N/A form, and hence that suggestion. What year is your EJ20T? The EJ25 block you have is a Phase 1 engine for MY97.
Contact Matt @ Roger Clark Motorsport, they'll be able to put it together for you. Just let him know that Jack @ iON Performance told you to contact them.
