Was the only difference between Phase 1 and 2 that Phase 2 had a ps cooler and the return pipe was in a different place on the later pump??
Is the ps fluid cooler pipe required when putting a phase 2 pump on a phase 1 car?? (it aint there as std and pump looks 90% the same?)

The pump is essentially the same, and the reservoirs will swap.
The low perssure return line doesnt really matter, as this is easily midified with flexible pipe.
The high pressure side obviously needs done right.
The only real difference with the older pump is that the fitting has a smaller thread than the new one, and hence the pipework from a newer car will not bolt on.
If you do decide just to swap the reservoir ( and make up your own pipework ) watch out....on mine, when i did it ( thinking I could use my older pump, but cant due to the pipework thread bit, so I will be swapping it all fore a newr pump, and pipes ) there was a stud protruding out the back of the pump, which caused the reservoir not to seal properly.
I wondered why the fluid was goin in so fast !!!
I simply cut of the excess stud with a hacksaw, and everything sealed OK
