Help on setting up the idle air solenoid valve
#1
I gave the car pipework (MY98) a good clean out with brake cleaner over Crimbo and took the idle air solenoid apart but found nothing to clean.
I carefully noted the top grey plastic electromag position but never noted how the valve onto which it fits was positioned.
If I turn the valve fully anticlockwise then reassemble , when I take my foot off the throttle, the car kangaroos.
Also with the cold weather, the idle speed is a little sluggish (only goes up to 1000 rpm) at start-up.
Turning it fully clockwise and running the car, I notice that the solenoid is acting almost like a throttle damper. However, the car pops and bangs like there is some overfuelling somewhere.
Cold starting is now fine.
Is there an accurate DIY way of setting up the valve plus solenoid or is it a Subaru job?

Butty,
there are some technical doc's from the subaru workshop manuals flying around the net. I have some @home. unfortunatly, most of them are for the pre97 cars, so not 100% accurate for us. (mines is MY97)
also I think they changed the type of valve @MY97, so mite be totally useless!
you could try the Ravensblade site.
otherwise, I'll look tonght and see what it says!
good luck!
Steve
