Castrol Syntrax seems to be well recommended on here, is that the stuff I should go for? 75W90?
How much of it do I need (for everywhere that needs it at 48 month service - is that just 'box and rear diff?) on a MY98 Impreza 2.0GL wagon, and on a MY95 Imp. 1.6GL wagon?
Anyone know how much it is at Halfords (or wherever's best to source it - Demon Tweeks not too far from me).
Many thanks,
Ben

Ben,
I had this site suggested as they are a lot cheaper than Halfords etc for Syntrax universal.
You need roughly 0.8 ltrs for the diff & 3.5 ltrs for the gearbox IIRC. If doing yourself, you'd be better buying bulk (25 litres) as this works out at £6.37 a litre compared to Halfords £9.99 a litre or if you know another Scooby owner go 1/2's with him.

Crikey, didn't think I was gonna be spending £40 on each car for box oil! Certainly makes the 25L deal seem good value, but does the stuff degrade? It'll be two years before I need to use any more of it!
Is Syntrax really worth the premium then? For example, Demon Tweeks have litre bottles of Castrol EP-90 ("for boxes and diffs specifying API GL4" - is that good enough for N/A Imprezas?) at only £3.51, or Millers CRX Fully Synth 75W90 £6.85/L.
I wasn't planning on doing it myself, they're both due a service so I was planning on handing the guy the bottle of gear oil. Will ask how much the garage can get syntrax for.
Go on N-REV, let us in on your secret!
Cheers,
Ben

Ben,
If you spend a little bit more money for a full synthetic 75W90 oil, you won't regret it. Gear change is MUCH better, specially when it is cold. (I thought Subaru had filled the gearbox with glue instead of oil)
I have very good experience with Syntrax also.
Mark.

you'll need 4ltrs and as suggested it really pays to change to a fully synth 75w90, we stock various but do deals on either Silkolene or Millers Oils products for "scoobynetter's"
check out the FULLY INCLUSIVE price in 'fluids'/scoobyshop......

Many thanks for the replies everyone.
Will go for Syntrax after recommendations on here and from my mechanic. Needs to arrive by Friday ideally though, how do "Castrol Classic Oils" do on delivery speed?
Cheers,
Ben
