Got one of these that's absolutely bone stock except for:

1. Removed middle cat.

2. A free-flow STi Genome backbox (looks like the Blitz Nur Spec).

Should I worry about excessive leaning out caused by these small mods?

Could I get away with Octane Booster with 98 octane?

Don't want to add yet another STi 5 engine into the scrap heap.

Many thanks.

I wouldnt worry about these mods. The STi 5 comes with a decatted mid-section anyway and your back box will only increase power slightly. Unlikely to cause any probs.

Fuel is probably the most important factor. 98 RON with Octane Booster should see you OK.

Where did you get your backbox?

Cheers

Thanks m8 for the sigh of relief.

I just got this backbox off a bloke who selling it for a friend - so only god knows where it came from.

Think you can buy it off www.japanparts.com though. I'm now eyeing the Genome triple meters.

tasty!

left the needle a second too long in the redline in 5th.

Let off the throttle, heard a clanking noise from the engine.

Stopped the car by the side of the highway.

Idled for about 30 seconds before BBBOOOOOM!

Opened up the bonnet and saw a piston sticking out of the side of the engine block.

ouch!

I'm now using Motul 300V 15W/50. It should fare better this time round.

The STi Genome muffler isn't loud at all. At idle, it's bassier then the standard STi muffler. At throttle, the boxer note is more pronounced.

IMHO, it's what the boxer sound should sound like. A crisp note that isn't intrusive.

Fantasmo.
