I know this is has been done to death but i am going to be doing an oil change in the scoob and wondered what oil to use.

I am running higher boost and was told that you need to change the oil more often when doing this.

So a short answer would be great!!!

Thanks Guys n Gals

i checked all my service records, and they have used Shell Helix Ultra on every single service including the 1000 mile one

Is it best I carry on using this oil for future services, as I am now over due a 15k service

and hopefully will be getting Scoobynorth to do it for me

Question

Are you talking about the 5w30 rated fully synthetic?
You should read your owners manual what it says about the use of this oil (make sure you check the temps for when you should ACTUALLY use it )

It says for turbo models SAE 5w-30 is not recommended for sustained high speed driving, and it is written in Bold !

I personally have never had the car serviced, only had it 4 weeks, but I have all the original receipts from the previous owner, and all it says it Shell Helix Ultra at 6.50 a unit (i guess litre it doesnt say, cept it has 5 so total cost is 29.25 for the Oil

Its just that I am having the first service (15k) with me as the owner, and wether I should carry on using this oil, or ask for different

I will be driving motorways most of the time, with the odd burst down the country lanes

Look in Scoobyshop and get yourself some Castrol RS 10w60, and this will do the job for you perfectly.

Question

Rang a few car shops to find out if they stocked any of the above oils and most of them said that I should be using a 5/40 or a 0/35 oil.

Should I still stick with the 15/50 or not

Rice rocket ignore them. This was the subject of a very long thread not so long ago. Many knowledgable people like Bob,Mark,John Banks and lots of people running highly modified engines gave their input. The consensus was the three oils mentioned above were the best.My next oil change will be next week and I'll be ordering the Motul.Motul(for what its worth) are the official oil supplier to the Scooby WRC team. Its also £13 cheaper/4 litre bottle than the Mobil. Each to their own but anybody who read that previous long thread and then decides to use something other than these 3 oils is wasting their time on the Scoobynet ie reading but not learning.

Thumbs up

Thanks DS,

I was going for the Mutol but none of the local shows sold it so I phoned a few and was told the above.

I know Dr Banks and trust him alot, so for the others saying the same i can't go wrong using any one of the 3.

Thanks guys

I know S&S services in Ayr use/stock the motul oil now. I have some spare if you want to part with some £££ but you would have to pop through to edinburgh to get it.

email as per profile..
