DIY Turbo upgrade project
New TD06 bolt on direct entry compressor housing / TD05 90 degree
Flip side -
20G compressor wheel / Std 'small' 16G compressor wheel
Modified exhaust housing to improve spool up and minimise lag
The main turbine discharge area is ported to remove steps and allow gradual expansion of the exhaust gasses directly into the main 3" downpipe.
This set up is to mate to a twin dump downpipe where the wastegate gasses go down a separate pipe which rejoins the main pipe at a shallow angle near the bottom of the downpipe.
Compressor maps show 20% more flow at 4% higher efficiency than the 16G

Nice pics andy....I must admit I'd love to see beyond those white garage doors now. I can only assume its like a WRX RA graveyard with bits of engine everywhere As a non-getyourhandsdirty type I really appreciate pics of the various engine bits to give me an idea for what they look like.
Thumbs up

Does anyone know of other car manufacturers turbo parts (same make of turbo obviously) that fit the scoob ones(td05)
What I mean is I once used a saab turbo exh comp housing on a T2 garret on a 'home brewed turbo conversion, I got it from a scrappy for peanuts. Would have cost me bout £250 new.
Just wondered if you ever use parts like this or just buy new?
I mean those parts have been designed for another vehicle (small truck perhaps?) and there are things like that sitting in scrap yards

Good thing with Mitsubishi turbo's is that everything seems to be available to buy....at reasonable prices
Doesn't the Evo td05 spin in the opposite direction?

yes they spin backwards on the EVOs. But not on the US DSMs and Talons that much of the turbo stuff (over there) is available for.
There are about half a dozen companies that do a good range of turbo conversions for the TD05.

IIRC, only the 5,6 and 7 are reverse spin. I believe the early ones also used a TD05 but not all of them had the 'big' 16G.
Still, not many of them in the scrap yards

David,
Looking at the last photo, how much has the exhaust inlet port been opened up on your TD05 hybrid?
It'll be interesting to see how these 2 very different TD05 hybrids perform.

Andy F,
"If only we had a 'projects' forum "
Have you, perchance, visited bbs.22b.com lately? IIRC, there might be exactly the forum you are after sitting there.

Andy,
Just curious, but the TD06 cover looks like it's too big to fit in the stock location, are you making a custom up, and down pipe for it ?
Also, what are you doing for the actuator ?
Mark.

Although I have not actually mounted it yet I'm fairly sure it will fit in .......watch this space !
After all, when one can walk on water, how hard can this be
I had offered it up and all that would appear to be close was the original FPR....which I don't have
The wastegate actuator will require a longer rod and one bolt hole relocating.
