Help Please on Exhausts
I am buying a wrx impreza and have asked for a larger back box for a nice sound.
A Magnotex 6x4 oval was recommended as it sounds nice but not over the top.
Will it sound ok or do i need a de-cat and what will this do for me and what are the legal/warranty issues?
must admit not overly sure what a de-cat is even after reading about it, it seems like the next section after the back box.
so if it makes the car slower why have it?

Hi
I have a Magnex Back Box 6" *4" Oval, and it does sound very nice, not too loud either
I also have a Magnex De-cat centre section with resonator, and there are no probs with emissions failing
Mine is on a EU MY00

Lot's of choice there...
Scooby Sport is what I have. They're recognised Subaru mods that shouldn't affect warranties. Check thier website.
There are others. Some of the Jananese ones like Blitz sound awesome, but not for everyone.
There are 2 cats. One in the downpipe and a second in the centre. Common practise is to change the backbox and centre section.
Nutters do the fron downpipe too not for me though

No Probs Ajax
The resonator AFAIK just makes it a little quieter
I didnt want something that was going to be too loud, as I do a fair bit of motorway driving, and didnt want to get to work with a headache
and occaisionally I like listening to my stereo

The way I believe it works is this (feel free to jump in anyone if im incorrect)
The Backbox will only give you a better sound, the centre section (decat) will improve performance slightly, quicker turbo spool up (or earlier spool up)
my turbo now comes in at around 2.5k, whereas before it only came in about 3k
I didnt really know when I bought the exhaust, but I know more now, and I heard the way to go was with at least a decat centre section, and backbox

I have recently found out that if it is a 94 WRX or earlier you can get it though the mot with out cats. I think scooby sport sounds the best, but the back box looks a bit weedy. The jap systems look the business but don't sound as good. However The Blitz back box is 'fatt' to use Nova speak and sounds good.
But what chucks ou the exhuast gases the most effectively?
Who knows???? I am sure several people on here know the answer.

If it's a new age WRX you're buying, I have a full ScoobySport system up for grabs in the For Sale section.
If you have a decent relationship with your dealer, warranty calims shouldn't really be an issue (depending on the problem).
A full, turbo back system, gives the car a fair bit of extra kick and the car growls a lot louder.

I've had on the car the following:
1. Scoobysport.. Lovely sound and didn't drone into the car when on the motorways.
2. BPM Twister. AWESOME sound, guaranteed to turn heads for at least 400yds. However I did get stopped by the police on the M5 who said they could here it in their car from 400 yds behind with their windows up Talked me way out of that one
Only problem was the sound droned into the car when just cruising on the motorway.
3. Now have a Magnex oval fitted and peace has been returned to the interior of the car once again. Still sounds quite nice from outside though
Edited to say.. All the above have been fitted inconjunction with the Scoobysport downpipe
